I very much enjoyed the Camp even though it was the first Camp where I was completely cut off from WLAN. I usually tweet a lot and share my impressions with the world and it feels very odd not being able to do so.
Never mind - it was great to have so many Drupal experts in one place. A lot of VIPs were present, too. The anglophone Camps attract a distinctly different audience than the Camps held in Germany. Maybe we should think about organizing an anglophone Camp in Germany. This could lead to an increased exchange with the international Community and help us to better communicate the wishes and interests of the German community regarding the focus of Cons on an international level.
Quark and Co in Drupal 7
With entities Drupal provides a basis for new concepts that will revolutionize website-building with Drupal. Up to now nodetypes, taxonomies and users were the pieces in the Drupal building set but now, with entities, we entered the world of Quarks. A lot of the things that were rather tricky in Drupal 6 can be solved easily and elegantly in Drupal 7.
The problems with multilingualism of organic groups and shops are a thing of the past. So far organic groups and shop articles were nodes and therefore per se monolingual. The new entity model provides us with a more abstract level of data modeling. We can link nodes, terms, users and even arguments with entities. Everything is fieldable. If I join an organic group I will be able to attach attributes like payment status to the this relationship. This provides opportunities that were unimaginable before.
With the framework Drupal 7 you are able to develop a solution for a whole industry - for instance for exporters of auto parts - and include features like an assistant for pricing via multiple axes. Something we developed years ago offline. The range of Drupal sites will increase dramatically with this. In the future we will regard Drupal not only as a Content Management Framework, but as an Application Framework providing a strong basis on which complex shop systems can be installed.
Kars-T takes off
My best snapshot was a photo of Karsten at the end of his simpletest session. This session was a lot less technical than his previous ones. He talked about his experiences with testing and his enthusiasm was picked up by the audience. On the photo I captured the moment of taking off.
Save the book module
Our new trainee, Ricardo, started a running gag by complaining (jestingly) that there was not a single session about the book module at an international Camp. So we decided to hold a session about the book module at our next UserGroup meeting in Hamburg.
